Explosions in Beirut and sirens in Bahrain, attacks across the Middle East

Overnight, Israel and Iran have exchanged attacks, with Tehran also launching missiles and drones towards US allies in the Persian Gulf and Israel launching a new wave of attacks on its second front in the war against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.

The Israeli military said it had identified missiles fired from Iran, with its defense systems acting to intercept the threat. In a post on Telegram, it urged members of the public to “act responsibly and follow instructions,” adding that “they save lives.” People have been instructed to enter a protected area and remain there until further notice.

The Israeli military also announced that it had launched a new wave of strikes against Iranian-backed Hezbollah targets in Beirut, the Lebanese capital. Large plumes of smoke were seen rising from the capital's southern suburbs, known as a Hezbollah stronghold.

Kuwait's military said air defense systems had intercepted missiles from Iran for the second time since midnight. Seven power lines were also knocked out by damage from falling debris, the country's electricity ministry said.

Sirens were heard several times in Bahrain late last night and into the early hours of the morning. The country's Interior Ministry urged the public to "remain calm and move to the nearest safe place."

Meanwhile, attacks have also been reported in Saudi Arabia, where overnight, the defense ministry said it had captured and destroyed several drones.
