Saudi media: Tomorrow or Friday, Iran may attack Israel
Iran's response to Israel's killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya could happen tomorrow or Friday. This is reported by the Saudi state news network Al Arabiya.
The waiting period for retaliation is taking longer than initially expected by the US, according to sources familiar with US intelligence. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, along with other officials, warned on Sunday and Monday that the attack would come within 24 hours, but so far no action has been taken by either Iran or Hezbollah.
Iran is believed to be awaiting the conclusion of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where the expected response to Tel Aviv will be discussed.
US officials are trying to determine the nature of Iran's response and whether there will be coordinated action with Hezbollah or other Iraqi or Yemeni militias. On the other hand, the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, has already stated that Iran and Hezbollah will respond decisively, leaving open the possibility of a coordinated attack on a large scale and on multiple fronts.
Israelis fear Hezbollah's arsenal because the organization is believed to have a large number of precision-guided missiles, which it has not revealed since October, along with surface-to-air missiles and other types of rockets and drones.
The size of the missile arsenal is said to be of more concern to Americans than the variety of weapons the terrorist organization possesses.
Al Arabiya also reports that the US sources in question believe they can help Israel stop most of the missiles or drones to be launched by Iran and supporting militias, although a protracted conflict with Hezbollah would pose a challenge in itself.
