Emilio Fede, iconic Italian television journalist, passes away

Emilio Fede, one of the most well-known figures in Italian journalism and television, has passed away at the age of 94. The news was confirmed by his daughter, Sveva, to the newspaper "Corriere della Sera".

Fede passed away on Tuesday after a significant deterioration in his health. He had been hospitalized for a long time at the "San Felice" care center in Segrate, near Milan.

Emilio Fede began his career as a war journalist at RAI in the 1960s and later became director of the news edition TG1. In the 1990s, he joined Silvio Berlusconi's media group, Fininvest, where he directed TG4 for 20 years. With his emotional style and strong editorials, he became a controversial but widely followed figure on screen.

In recent years, he also faced the loss of his wife, Diana De Feo, a journalist and later Forza Italia MP, a loss that Fede called "the greatest pain" of his life.
