Former President Joe Biden was diagnosed with prostate cancer last week, his office said in a statement on Sunday.

The news came after it was discovered that during a "routine clinical examination," he was suffering from this serious illness.

"He was diagnosed with prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) and bone metastasis," his office said on Sunday.

As Biden and his family consider treatment options, former President Barack Obama, President Donald Trump and other political leaders have begun reaching out to express their support for the former president of the United States.

Obama posted a heartfelt message on X yesterday, Sunday (5/18), saying: “Michelle and I are thinking of the entire Biden family. No one has done more to find innovative treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am confident that he will meet this challenge with his characteristic determination and grace. We pray for a speedy and full recovery.”

Trump posted on Truth Social, writing: "Melania and I are saddened to hear of Joe Biden's recent medical diagnosis. We extend our support and best wishes to Jill and the family, and wish Joe a speedy and successful recovery."

Former US Vice President Kamala Harris also posted on X on Sunday, saying that she and her husband are praying for Joe Biden and his family.

"Joe is a fighter – and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership," she wrote.

Her husband, Doug Emhoff, the former deputy commander under Biden, posted his own message separately.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also sent her support: "My thoughts are with the Biden family as they face cancer, a disease from which they have done so much to save other families. I wish you a speedy and full recovery."

Former President Bill Clinton also added a note to his personal account, saying: "My friend Joe Biden has always been a fighter. Hillary and I support him, Jill and the entire family."

Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on X: “Janet and I are praying for the Biden family during this difficult time.”

"Our hearts are with President Biden and his entire family at this time," California Governor Gavin Newsom wrote.

"President Biden knows that when you fall, you get back up and fight," Illinois Governor JB Pritzker wrote.

Members of Congress from both parties also used social media to share their support for the Biden family.

Among the Democratic senators who expressed their support were Peter Welch of Vermont, Ruben Gallego of New Mexico, Tim Kaine of Virginia and John Fetterman of Pennsylvania.

Among the Republican senators were Tom Tillis of North Carolina, Susan Collins of Maine and Roger Marshall of Kansas.

Democratic Representative Ro Canna of California wrote: "He and Jill have always been fighters and I am confident they will rise to this challenge with strength."

"As you face this health challenge, my prayers are with you, for continued courage during this difficult time and a full recovery," Democratic Representative Joyce Beatty of Ohio wrote in X.

Republican Representatives Anna Paulina Luna of Florida and Mike Lawler of New York also expressed their messages of a speedy recovery.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries issued a statement Sunday evening, saying: “Over the years, the Biden family has faced unimaginable hardship with unwavering grace and perseverance. We stand with President Biden as he faces this moment with the same courage and resilience he has shown throughout his life.”
