Tragedy in Crimea/ Russian military plane crashes, 29 reported dead

A Russian Antonov An-26 military transport plane has crashed during a flight over the Crimean Peninsula, killing all 29 people on board.

The news was reported by TASS, citing sources from the Russian Defense Ministry.

According to preliminary information, contact with the plane was lost at around 18:00 local time, while investigation teams have arrived at the scene to clarify the causes of the accident. There were six crew members and 23 passengers on board, with no survivors.

Russian authorities have said that, based on initial data, there are no indications that the plane was hit by Ukrainian anti-aircraft systems. The main scenario being considered is that of a technical defect, although investigations into the exact causes of the crash are ongoing.

Crimea, where the accident occurred, was annexed by Russia in 2014 and remains an area of ​​high strategic and military importance.
