Labeling rules for energy-impacting products approved

The Council of Ministers today approved the rules for labeling energy-related products, an important act for energy efficiency.

In a statement to the media after the government meeting, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, stated that until now we have had fragmented rules regarding the labeling of energy-intensive products.

"The rules apply to all electrical equipment that is labeled according to EU norms, where category A has the lowest energy impact. We have approved about 17 rules regarding these labeling elements," the minister added.

According to him, "the act is important because it offers the consumer, for the first time, an integrated approach to all the impacts of products on energy."

"The consumer is free to make relevant transactions with full information about each energy product. This aims to reduce electricity consumption because products that have a lower energy impact are incentivized," Karakaçi added.

The minister also emphasized that this decision comes within the framework of EU integration, as it is one of the measures that the Ministry of Interior has foreseen in the EU Growth Plan.

"For every act implemented, the EU also has the corresponding budgetary support. This is included as an act in this EU plan of measures. The act is very detailed. There are 17 rules and the entire list of products that are included in the labeling obligation according to EU standards," said Karakaçi.

The Minister also informed that at today's government meeting, several expropriations were approved that provide freedom for investments.

"The opportunity was created for a 400 kilovolt substation in Fier, as well as for the expansion of Corridor VIII, where we are progressing at a satisfactory pace. Likewise for the new port of Porto Romano," Karakaçi added.
