Colombia is shaken again, presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay is shot in

Colombia has been gripped by shock and uncertainty following a serious attack on presidential candidate and prominent conservative senator, Miguel Uribe Turbay.

He was shot three times, twice in the head, during an election rally in a park in the capital Bogota.

The 39-year-old senator, part of the opposition Centro Democrático party, is currently in intensive care and in critical condition, following surgical interventions performed at the Santa Fe hospital.

The attack occurred on Saturday afternoon, in front of dozens of his supporters.

According to authorities, a 15-year-old teenager was arrested at the scene after being shot in the leg by officers during the pursuit.

Uribe's wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, called for national prayers, while Colombia's president, Gustavo Petro, expressed solidarity in a message:

"Today is a day of pain. There are political differences between us, but that doesn't matter now. Let's all unite for the life of Miguel Uribe."

Petro's government and the Centro Democrático party strongly condemned the attack, calling it a threat to democracy.

Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez offered a reward of 3 billion pesos (about $730,000) for any information that could help the investigation.
