What changed in 51 days of protest?

Even if today, after 51 days, the protest ends, some things never come back.
1. It created a civic opposition beyond the institutional opposition and built networks of trust among citizens, professionals, artists, students, and entrepreneurs that did not exist before.
2. It turned the environment from a cause of environmentalists into a national issue and highlighted two parallel Albanias, that of public interest and that of private interest.
3. It made the flamingo a symbol of civic resistance, perhaps even the word of the year.
4. Place SPAK and GJKKO under the observation and pressure of citizens, not just politics.
5. Reveal the face of a part of the media, who informs, who remains silent, and who propagates.
6. It brought the diaspora back into the protest, both with its presence and public support.
7. It improved Albania's image as a society that responds and does not accept everything in silence. At the same time, it weakened the international image of the prime minister as a modern reformer, shifting attention to the problems of democracy, the rule of law, and governance.
8. Create a new political address. For every scandal, people now know that the answer is not just Facebook, but also the square.
9. Instill the idea that private property is sacred, but the state is not private property.
10. It forced the government out of its comfort zone. Ministers, MPs, and officials who had not been accountable for years were forced to appear on screen.
11. It increased the political cost of every controversial decision and reminded that even a parliamentary majority does not replace social legitimacy. The government must understand that it cannot behave as the owner of public property, but as an administrator delegated by the citizens.
12. It created a new generation of activists who gained experience in organizing, communicating, and resisting without being part of parties. It showed that a protest can be massive even without party flags and traditional leaders, uniting people of different beliefs around a common cause.
13. He put the issue of Sazan, Zvërnec and coastal protection on the international agenda.
14. Reopen the debate on the limits of executive power and citizen control over it.
15. I am setting a precedent. Future protests will not start from scratch, because the model of organization and resistance already exists.
Protests are usually measured by what they tear down. This protest can also be measured by what it built.
It is laying the foundations of a new civic culture, and is instilling the idea that people are not mere spectators of decisions made about them, but actors who can oppose them in an organized manner.
The protest put an end to the passive role of the citizen in front of a television or mobile phone screen and gave everyone the opportunity to believe that their reaction has weight.
Above all, it created a point of no return. From now on, every important decision-making will have to take into account the citizen reaction.
The country has changed, even if not everyone is yet ready to accept it.
