EU Ambassador: Strong justice system essential for Albania's future in the EU

The European Union Ambassador to Albania, Sofia Moreira de Sousa, held a meeting this Wednesday with the President of the High Prosecutorial Council, Mirela Bogdani, where the focus was on the priorities of the prosecution system and the continuation of the implementation of the justice reform.

After the meeting, Moreira de Sousa emphasized the importance of strengthening the justice system for Albania's European integration process, while making it clear that the European Union's support for justice institutions will continue.

According to the ambassador, the conversation with Bogdani addressed, among other things, institutional accountability, the independence and effectiveness of institutions, as well as further steps in the implementation of justice reform.

"A strong justice system is essential for Albania's future in the European Union. During my meeting with Mirela Bogdani, President of the High Prosecutorial Council, we discussed the main priorities of the prosecution system in Albania, including institutional accountability and the continuation of the implementation of justice reform," Moreira de Sousa declared.

The Ambassador further underlined that Brussels will continue to support the strengthening of justice institutions in the country, linking their functioning to citizens' trust in the system.

"I emphasized that the EU will continue to support strong, accountable, independent and effective justice institutions, contributing to Albania's path towards EU membership and strengthening citizens' trust in the justice system," said the EU Ambassador.
