Rama and Berisha bring Tom Doshi back to politics

In 2018, during President Trump's first administration, Tom Doshi was declared non grata by the US State Department. In justifying the sanctions, State Department officials specified that Doshi was involved in significant corruption and facilitating organized crime, which harms the governance of Albania, but at the same time also undermines the national security of the United States.
This was a serious blow to Prime Minister Edi Rama, who had, and still has, Doshi as an important political ally in taking and maintaining power. On the other hand, the sanctioning of Doshi, as well as Vangjush Dako, was a powerful card for the opposition in confronting the socialist majority, as it substantiated the DP's accusations regarding the links between politics and crime, electoral and economic corruption.
Seven years later, a few months before the May 11 elections, and four years after giving up the mandate he won in Shkodra in 2021 after pressure from the United States, Tom Doshi has announced his ambition to be in parliament again.
For many, this may seem like a bolt from the blue, but this journey of the PSD leader, from the margins of politics and camouflaged cooperation with the PS, to returning to the political arena, is the fruit of a great transversal battle, beyond the left and the right, to achieve the rehabilitation of those sanctioned by an alliance of non gratas, declared and undeclared by the State Department.
When Sali Berisha was declared "non grata" in May 2021, most predicted his inevitable end. However, aided by Edi Rama, who saw in this sanction the fate that awaits him, by Ilir Meta and other segments of the oligarchy and the underworld, the latter of which is denounced by Berisha's current deputy mayor, Gazment Bardhi, it seems that they all fought together to relativize the instrument of "non grata" in public perception.
One of the clearest examples of the undeclared alliance between Rama and Berisha was the race for the Shkodra Municipality in 2022. Shkodra, once an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, fell into the hands of Berisha's candidate thanks to the support of Edi Rama and Tom Doshi. A year later, when the pulpit revolution was over, in the race between Bardh Spahisa and Benet Beci, so only two candidates instead of three as on March 6, the PS won Shkodra, as well as other bastions of the right, as evidence of the falsity of the pulpit revolution and the sensational promises of victory and the overthrow of Rama in just a few months.

Ai përdori mandatet e Doshit në parlament, duke u justifikuar me sanksionimin e Berishës, e më vonë përdori Berishën për të goditur PD-në që po luftonte për ta ndarë fatin e saj politik, nga fati i njërit prej themeluesve të saj.
Ndryshe nga deklaratat publike të Edi Ramës, ku trumbetonte se nuk bashkëpunonte me non gratën, ai ishte promotori i parë i aksionit të Berishës edhe në institucionet shqiptare. Të gjithë mbajmë mend mesazhet mes Flamur Nokës dhe Lindita Nikollës, atëhere drejtuese e Kuvendit, për t’i dhënë fjalën në seancë Berishës. Fjalime që përdoreshin për të sjellë në Parlament përplasjen mes Bashës dhe Berishës, e për të mbajtur gjallë përçarjen e PD-së sipas oreksit të PS-së.
Po ashtu emblematik u bë mbajtja e Gazment Bardhit në krye të grupit të PD-së nga socialistët e Edi Ramës, kur vula dhe simbolet nuk ishin në kampin e Berishës dhe PD zyrtare kishte dorëzuar në Kuvend ndryshimet përkatëse.
Bashkëpunimi vijoi më andej me amnistimin e të korruptuarve dhe me mbylljen e listave, si dhe në një mori syshkeljesh që e kanë bërë të qartë për këdo që ka sy në ballë, se Rama i zgjati dorën Berishës, sepse zgjidhja pa konflikt të brendshëm në PD të sanksionimit të ish-kreut të saj, përfaqësonte fillimin e fundit politik të Edi Ramës.
E gjithë kjo histori është një dëshmi e qartë se si Berisha e sakrifikoi opozitën shqiptare për të shpëtuar veten. Dikur ai deklaronte se të qenit “non grata” ishte një dënim i rëndë politik dhe moral, sidomos kur e përdorte si armë kundër Gramoz Ruçit dhe socialistëve, dhe për këtë ka qëndim publik të Berishës në shtator të 2017-ës. Por kur vetë u përball me të njëjtin fat, ai e relativizoi këtë ndëshkim deri në atë pikë sa të bashkëpunonte hapur me elementët që dikur i denonconte.
Në këtë skemë, Rama mbeti përfituesi më i madh. Ai e dinte se një opozitë e shkatërruar nga vetë lideri i saj historik do ta ndihmonte atë në menaxhimin e krizave që prodhon korrupsioni dhe lidhjet e pushtetit të tij me krimin. Me njerëz si Tom Doshi dhe Vangjush Dako në krah, Rama ka një hambar me struktura paralele për të grumbulluar vota përmes skemave klienteliste, që ishin edhe arsyet pse individë të tillë u sanksionuan nga SHBA.
Falë Edi Ramës dhe Sali Berishës, Tom Doshi rikthehet pra në politikë, ndërsa ata që i shkojnë pas Doktorit, kanë shkatërruar betejën parimore dhe morale të PD-së kundër të sanksionuarve, duke lejuar që ata politikanë që SHBA i nxorri nga dera e politikës me kokën ulur, të futeshin përsëri nga dritarja me kokën lartë, si një karshillëk ndaj të gjithë atyre që duan një politikë të pastër dhe normale në Shqipëri.
The latter, who according to every poll turn out to be the majority, have another reason on May 11 to take a stand by voting for the future of Albania.
On one side we have the “alliance of the non grata”, which is politically alive thanks to the support of Rama, as the main interested party in keeping them in politics. On the other side we have the true, principled, anti-corruption, Euro-Atlantic opposition, which seeks to open a new chapter for the country, leaving behind the Balkan Haxhiqamilist games, with which they seek to keep the country as a fiefdom of a small handful of people.
In these four years of battle with the "alliance of non grata", which began years ago, but took the form of the harshest political confrontation after Basha's decision on September 9, 2021 to suspend Berisha from the DP parliamentary group, Albanians have seen the difference between true and false leadership.
For their troubles, Rama and Berisha, emptied hell and resurfaced the devils to protect their interests, proving a false leadership, which does not serve the citizens at all but sets the country back. In front of them, Basha, and all of them, stood resolutely for a series of values and principles, giving up personal interests to serve the public interest, showed what true leadership is, regardless of the costs, regardless of the sacrifices and facing a toxic political and media environment, financed by corrupt interests.
On May 11, these two different worlds will collide in the elections, the victory of one or the other is in the hands of the citizens, now aware that when they vote for Berisha, Doshi, Dako, they vote to keep Rama. When they vote for Rama, they keep Berisha, Doshi, Dako./ Alfapress.al
