
The Albanian economy is becoming less productive/ Enterprises, employees and net sales increased more in services

According to the latest results of the Structural Enterprise Survey, it appears that the Albanian economy has marked a significant increase in operating enterprises, the number of employees in these units, and net sales by economic activity.
The number of active enterprises in 2023 reached 117,292, marking an increase of 3.4% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the number of employees reached 559,922, an increase of 2.2%.
Service providers operating in the trade, accommodation and food service, transport and communication and other services sectors account for the largest share of enterprises with 87.2% and around 65.2% of the total number of employees. Meanwhile, trade enterprises account for the largest share, with 35.7% of the total.
On the other hand, about 34.8% of employees in the country are concentrated in the sector of producers of goods that exercise their activity in the extractive industry, processing industry, energy, water, waste treatment and construction sectors.
Net sales of enterprises in the country reached 3.381 billion lekë, marking an increase of 0.7% compared to 2022. Service producers account for the largest share of net sales, accounting for 67.5% of total net sales.

Enterprises in the goods-producing sector grew by 2.2%, while those operating in the services sector grew by 3.6%. The number of employees and net sales also increased more for services enterprises, while net sales of enterprises in the goods-producing sector fell by 7.3%./ SCAN
