Foreigners prefer Albania even in winter/ About 14.5% more in January. Visitors

Albania continues to consolidate itself as a tourist destination that attracts visitors not only in the classic summer season but throughout the year. The latest data published by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) show that during January 2025, a total of 1,158,204 Albanian and foreign citizens entered the territory of the Republic of Albania, marking an increase of 12.4% compared to the same period last year.

Of the total entries, 51.6% belong to Albanian citizens, with an increase of 10.6%, while the rest are foreign citizens, who have marked an increase of 14.5% compared to January 2024. In the same period, the number of exits from Albanian territory has reached 1.3 million Albanian and foreign citizens.

A more detailed analysis of arrivals by region of origin shows a significant expansion of the tourist base, with a significant increase in visitors from almost all regions of the globe. Africa recorded the largest increase, with 134.8%, followed by South Asia with an increase of 116.7%, while other regions such as the Middle East, East Asia and the Americas have tended to expand to a lesser extent.

However, Europe remains the main market for Albanian tourism, representing 97% of foreign national arrivals. In January 2025, over half a million arrivals from European countries were recorded, an increase of 14.3% compared to the previous year.

In terms of the purpose of the visit, 97% of the entries of foreign citizens were for personal purposes, dominated by holiday trips, family visits and tourist activities. A significant increase was also observed in entries for business and professional purposes.

The continuous increase in the number of visitors throughout the year is a positive indicator for the economy and development of the tourism sector in Albania. In recent years, our country has proven its potential to affirm itself as one of the most attractive destinations not only in the region, but also beyond./ SCAN
