Financial Times: US suspends visa applications worldwide

The administration of US President Donald Trump has suspended visa applications for applicants worldwide. The decision is part of an ongoing campaign by the US government to tighten immigration policies during the Republican leader's second term in the White House.
A US State Department spokesman said it has launched an initiative to train staff at all US embassies and consulates around the world and that applications for visa services will be suspended to allow employees to participate in the training.
Trump has pursued a policy of deporting immigrants and tightening immigration policies, which includes revoking visas and the Green Card, as well as denying applications for a variety of reasons, including political stances and pro-Palestinian protests against Israel's military campaign.
He argues that this campaign aims to improve internal security. However, the measures taken by the US administration have faced several legal obstacles. Days earlier, a US court overturned a decision by the Trump administration to suspend the issuance of visas to migrants from 75 countries, saying that such a policy amounted to exceeding the legal powers of US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
The State Department did not provide details about the training it will provide or even the deadlines for when it will be held, only saying that this training aims to help consular officers exclude applicants who are assessed as likely to become dependent on public benefits in the US, as well as to ensure that the evaluation of visa applicants is done "in a comprehensive and uniform manner."
The suspension of visa applications was first reported by the Financial Times, which said immigrant visa applicants who had scheduled interviews at US embassies and consulates had received emails notifying them that their appointments were being rescheduled and that they would be notified later of a new date.
Trump promised during his presidential campaign for a second term in the White House to deport millions of undocumented migrants, and his administration has taken a series of actions since he returned to the White House, measures aimed at accelerating deportations and reducing the number of illegal border crossings.
