Over 10 tons of cocaine seized/Historic record in Spain, the drugs belong to an Albanian organization

By Raul Hernandez, LA VERDAD
The quantity of cocaine discovered in Águilas could become one of the largest seizures in Spanish history. The quantity of the drug stored in two industrial silos in the El Labradorcico industrial estate is estimated to be up to ten tons, although the final count has not yet been completed. Its value on the black market would significantly exceed 100 million euros. The discovery was made on Friday, October 30.
The investigation launched by the Civil Guard is trying to find out who is behind its storage and where this large shipment comes from. Initial investigations indicate that the drugs may belong to a criminal organization of Albanian origin, which is suspected of using the premises, which had no sign or identifying mark of any company, as a warehouse to prepare for its distribution.
More than 5,000 kilograms of cocaine had already been counted in the first silo, while the discovery of a second environment, also filled with drugs, brought the estimate to around ten tons.
The quantity seized is much larger than the 5,000 kilograms of cocaine seized by the National Police in April off the coast of Huelva. That shipment, brought into the country by speedboat, was considered by the Interior Ministry to be the largest quantity of drugs seized in Spain to that time.
From 130 to 145 million euros
If the initial estimate is confirmed, the Águilas cargo would be worth well over 100 million euros. The price of cocaine in Spain currently ranges from 13,000 to 14,500 euros per kilogram, according to data consulted, which would put the value of ten tons at between 130 and 145 million euros.
The discovery was made by chance. The quantity of drugs came to light after a pallet loaded with drugs fell from a forklift during its removal. The collision damaged part of the load and scattered several packages of cocaine throughout the warehouse. The workers inside quickly fled the scene, leaving the forklift abandoned. When the Municipal Police arrived, notified of a possible accident at work, no one was in the warehouse. So far, no one has been arrested.
During the search, it was discovered that the stored pallets contained packages of cocaine. In one of the silos, between 300 and 400 pallets were found stored.
Following this discovery, the Civil Guard took over the investigation and located a second industrial silo in the same industrial area. Agents continued this Sunday to remove the drugs and verify the weight of the load.
Initial assessments indicate that the cocaine may have been distributed by land to various points in Spain and other European countries. The existence of the two warehouses and the volume of drugs seized point to a network capable of transporting large quantities of the goods.
