Albin Kurti leaves Vjosa Osmani out of the presidential race, Konjufca: Only

A few days before the deadline for electing the country's new President, the Vetëvendosje movement appears to have definitively left incumbent President Vjosa Osmani out of the race.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Glauk Konjufca, said in a statement to the media that the only candidate who has consensus in society is one of the members of the Jashari family.

"So far, the only names that have automatic consensus in our society are a President from the honorable Jashari family," said Konjufca, who provided details on which members of this family could be candidates for President.

To avoid early elections, Kosovo's parliamentarians must elect the country's new president no later than March 4th.

Even after inter-party meetings, there is no concrete name for the candidate for head of state.

However, from these meetings it became clear that none of the political parties has come out in support of Vjosa Osmani, who is aiming for another term as president, not even the Vetëvendosje Movement.

Albin Kurti said on Monday that he has not collected signatures for any candidates due to a lack of votes, but insiders say he wants a president who does not "challenge" him on the international level.

Current President Vjosa Osmani is aiming for another term, and Ramush Haradinaj, who recently resigned from the position of party leader, has expressed his willingness to run, but neither has collected the 30 signatures required by the constitution to run for president.
