PDK's Krasniqi accepts Kurti's invitation for a meeting, but LDK does not

The leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV), Albin Kurti, has called a meeting with the leaders of two of the largest parliamentary parties, Memli Krasniqi of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and Lumir Abdixhiku of the Democratic League of Kosovo, in an attempt to find a way to constitute the delayed Kosovo Assembly.
Krasniqi accepted the invitation, while LDK said it did not accept it.
Kurti has invited them to a joint meeting on Thursday at 8:30, about two hours before the ninth continuation of the constitutive session of the Parliament begins, LVV spokesman Arlind Manxhuka confirmed to Radio Free Europe.
In his letter, Kurti invites PDK and LDK, as two of the three parties with the most seats in the Assembly, to discuss the appointment of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Assembly.
Krasniqi said a few hours later on Facebook that he would go to the meeting in the hope that Kurti would change his position regarding the proposal of the candidate for Speaker of the Assembly.
"Finding a suitable candidate, who enjoys the support of the majority of MPs, would be an important step forward," Krasniqi wrote.
Earlier, LDK's elected MP, Besian Mustafa, told Radio Free Europe that "we are not participating in the meeting" and that Chairman Abdixhiku is abroad.
"The issue of the deputy speakers of the Assembly, defined as positions of party representation, is not a matter of discussion, because they are positions of party representation. The issue of the speaker of the Assembly is a political issue and requires a political majority. We have already given a position on this issue," said Mustafa.
Later, a member of the LDK General Council called on the party leadership to respond positively to the invitation for a meeting.
"In politics, and in crisis situations, when the Republic of Kosovo does not have an active Assembly, nor an active Government, participation in the discussion table, without entering into any kind of prejudice, is a democratic value and leadership," said Valon Murtezaj.
PDK has not yet commented on Kurti's invitation.
Nearly three months after the February 9 parliamentary elections, Kosovo has still not formed its institutions, due to disagreements between the winning party of the elections, Vetëvendosje, and some of the largest parliamentary parties, over the post of Speaker of the Assembly./ REL
