Kurti after meetings with Abdixhiku and Hamza: There is no name for the

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stated that the Vetëvendosje Movement currently does not have a specific candidate for the position of President of the country.

The statement came after a meeting with the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku. According to Kurti, neither the Democratic Party of Kosovo nor the LDK currently have a concrete name for this position.

However, the chief executive stressed that maximum efforts will be made to avoid early elections.

"Next, we must either find a name that guarantees the support of 2/3 of the deputies participating in the vote, no later than March 4, or the political entities must agree on the way forward. We need about 83-85 deputies, as the absence of even one could automatically lead us to elections. The general impression is that no one wants the first half of 2026 to be dominated by elections," Kurti said.

A day earlier, Kurti also met with PDK leader Bedri Hamza. The latter stated that his party will not become an obstacle to state processes, but will not support candidacies that, according to him, do not represent civic unity.

Hamza requested reflection from those who have constitutional responsibility to propose a candidate with the broadest possible political support.

According to the Constitution, the election of the President must be held no later than 30 days before the end of the term of the current president, Vjosa Osmani.
