Kosovo risks being left without the support of the United States of America if Albin Kurti wins the elections again. This is what the leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, told the media in Kosovo.
Haradinaj said that if Albin Kurti remains prime minister after February 9, the US will withdraw its protection for Kosovo.
"There is a real risk of removing any kind of shield from the United States of America for Kosovo. I am saying this not because I like it, and not because I have come to the point where this will win votes. But there is a real risk of removing any kind of shield from America if this man is elected."
Haradinaj described the statements of Richard Grenell, Donald Trump's special envoy for the Kosovo government, as very serious. He said that Grenell accurately reflects the state of relations between Kosovo and the United States.
"What Mr. Grenell said is still soft language, the situation is even worse, the situation and our relations with America are in a more dangerous phase than this position says. Even though this is blunt and is accurately explaining the situation, still believe that he has not threatened what will happen to Kosovo if you support this, but he said do not be fooled, do not trust him because he has brought relations to a bad phase."
Kosovo holds parliamentary elections on Sunday, February 9, as relations with the US, Pristina's closest ally for years, are at their lowest point.
