Bad weather sweeps across Germany, reports of casualties and injuries

Powerful storms and two tornadoes have caused extensive damage in several areas of Germany, leaving at least one person dead and several injured, while dozens of homes have been damaged.
In Walldorf, in Rhineland-Palatinate, a 58-year-old woman was killed and another, 47, was seriously injured after a tree was uprooted by the wind and fell on the shelter where the two had taken shelter from the storm. The 58-year-old woman died at the scene, while the other woman was taken to hospital.
The storms also caused damage in other areas of Rhineland-Palatinate, where trees and walls of houses were knocked down.
Two tornadoes hit Brandenburg and Hesse
A tornado hit Fürstenwalde-Spree, in Brandenburg, near Berlin. The German Meteorological Service (DWD) confirmed the phenomenon, while authorities reported damage in the area, including vehicles damaged by fallen trees. There were no injuries.
Another tornado hit the area near Wetzlar, in the state of Hesse. According to firefighters, about 60 houses were damaged by the extreme weather phenomenon.
In Laubach, near Wetzlar, a fallen tree damaged a gas tank in a residential building. Due to the gas leak, authorities evacuated the area within a radius of 200 meters.
Considerable damage has also been reported in Thuringia and Bavaria, where some homes have become uninhabitable.
Meanwhile, the German Meteorological Service has warned of further strong storms, particularly in the southern states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.
