Magistrates' salaries, general meeting of judges to be held tomorrow

The President of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi, announced the call for a general meeting of judges of all levels on September 10.

The Supreme Court's press release states that the meeting was called due to the situation created in the judicial system, as a result of the failure to implement the Constitutional Court's decision on the salary of magistrates within the deadline and the blockage by state structures responsible for administering the budget, the salaries of judges and the judicial administration.

The Head of the Supreme Court assesses that this situation is particularly serious and worrying, as it directly affects the normal functioning of the courts, the constitutional guarantees of the status of judges, the independence and institutional integrity of the judicial power, as well as the binding authority of the decisions of the Constitutional Court.

Sadushi also emphasized that "respecting the Constitution, the boundaries between powers, and the final decisions of the Constitutional Court constitutes an obligation and responsibility for every state institution."

The Head of the Supreme Court also appreciated that the seriousness of the situation requires a rapid, responsible and institutional response from the judiciary and that, on an issue that affects the entire judicial branch, it is important to hear the voice of every judge and for the judiciary to express a common position.

According to him, the meeting aims to develop an open discussion among judges of all levels on the current situation, respect and implementation of the Constitutional Court's decision, protection of the independence of the judiciary, and determination of the stance and institutional steps deemed necessary for its resolution.
