During a conversation with his followers on Facebook this Saturday, DP leader Sali Berisha returned to his harsh attacks on SPAK, emphasizing his old theory that it is totally controlled by Edi Rama and that the Albanian Special Prosecution Office is a partner in the narco-state established in Albania!

" Later developments showed that it was a direct order from Edi Rama. So, in this context, it is Rama who controls SPAK. It is not these people, none of them. But Rama, yes. 

Let me give you another example. Take the Aruba file. What is the Aruba file? It is a tripartite criminal meeting of major drug traffickers, major Albanian builders, and Albanian government officials. Arrest warrants were issued for the builders, they were issued for the traffickers, and not a word about the government officials who were the organizers of the meeting. 

"So, what does this show? This shows absolute control, and this makes SPAK a partner with the drug cartel ," said Berisha, who for the first time accused the head of the Special Prosecution Office of being captured through Interior Minister Ervin Demo and the Berat gangs. 

This savage attack by Berisha on SPAK seems like a "sudden" return to his slanderous rhetoric against SPAK, as until receiving a US visa and a 1-week visit to the US, he had stopped the accusations.

It is not yet known what developments there are from the recent investigations of the Special Prosecution Office into the massive money laundering of drug trafficking and corruption in Kulla and resorts (Ilir Shtufi case, etc.), against Berisha and especially his son, Shkëlzeni, but what makes this anti-SPAK campaign of the DP leader interesting at this time is the fact that it coincides with the arrival of the new American ambassador to Tirana, General Erik Wendt.

While not only the Democrats but also the Berishas are anxious about whether Ambassador Wendt, who is expected to be introduced in early October, will meet the leader of the DP or not, the latter seems to have openly opposed the positions and platform that Ambassador Wendt presented to the US Senate when he requested a vote of confidence, which he received. In that question-and-answer session on Albania, the general described SPAK as a strategic ally of the US, a partner, non-political, independent, and its work against corruption and organized crime successful.

During his testimony before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Eric Wendt, nominated by President Donald Trump for the position of US Ambassador to Albania, outlined the four main priorities of his mandate, but the first was the fight against Corruption and Organized Crime.

Wendt emphasized then that he would be strongly committed to the fight against high-level corruption and organized crime, specifically mentioning the crackdown on drug trafficking linked to Latin American cartels.

In the second priority, he declared open support for SPAK. During the session, he was directly asked about the role of the Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK). Wendt praised SPAK as a "very valuable", "independent" and "apolitical" institution. He guaranteed that Washington's support for this structure will continue, describing it as a key partner that should not be captured by crime or politics.

This is one of the key points of his platform for Albania and for which he was voted and received confidence in the US Senate. This strategy, this approach of Ambassador Wendt seems to completely contradict the opinion and position of the leader of the DP, Sali Berisha. Therefore, the arrival of Ambassador Wendt in Tirana and his position towards Sali Berisha is awaited with great interest. /Alfapress.al
