On the 16th anniversary of Albania's membership in NATO, the political leader of the Euro-Atlantic Coalition, Lulazim Basha, has recalled an interview in which he recounts the first moments of how he experienced this historic moment.
Basha emphasized that this moment marked Albania's emergence from isolation and union with the democratic world, describing it as an unwavering commitment to freedom and Euro-Atlantic values. As a former Foreign Minister, he shared his emotions about the signing of the accession protocols, thanking the United States of America for its strong support and expressing gratitude to international partners who believed in Albania's potential.
"Believe in Albania, because this country deserves more," Basha concluded, emphasizing that Albania's history is a guide to building a better future.

April 1, 2009 was a historic day for Albania ????????
A moment of national pride that finally brought us out of the darkness of isolation and united us with the democratic world, as full members of NATO.
For me, it has been a special honor to serve as Foreign Minister at that decisive moment. Signing, on behalf of Albania, the membership protocols to the North Atlantic Council, was one of the greatest responsibilities and deepest emotions of my political life.
On that day, Albania sealed an unwavering commitment to freedom, security and Euro-Atlantic values.
And it was proven to the whole world that, despite all the suffering and sacrifices, we are a country that knows how to rise, that knows how to choose the future.
This path would not have been possible without the vital and irreplaceable role of the United States of America ????????, which stood by Albania every step of the way. Our gratitude will remain eternal for President George W. Bush, who with his vision and support gave a powerful impetus to our journey towards NATO.
Also, today is the moment to thank from the bottom of our hearts all the partner countries that supported us with conviction and respect, believing in the potential of Albania and the will of the Albanians to be a factor of stability and peace in the region.
Today, 16 years later, we remember not just a historical signature, but what it represents:

The belief that our country can be safe, just, honest and prosperous.
