MEP Fredi Beleri has stated that the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, is the most successful politician in the last 30 years.
Beleri made the comments during an interview on the 'Off the Record' show with journalist Andrea Danglli on A2 CNN, where he said that Berisha was the politician who opened the Greek school in Himara, which had been closed for 46 years.
He also mentioned several achievements of the government of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, including Albania's membership in NATO and visa liberalization.
"I see Mr. Berisha as the most successful politician of the 34-year transition in Albania. He was the man who made the transition from the communist regime to democracy, he was the man who made Albania a member of NATO, he was the man who liberalized visas, it was his government that opened the Greek school in Himara that had been closed for 46 years by the communist regime, he was the man who until 2013 Albanians returned from emigration, while from 2013 until now, 1 million people are missing in Albania.
"Berisha had said that he would hold elections within his own party for the prime minister. I was clear that the SP would be the first party, but I thought that it would not exceed 71 deputies," Beleri said, among other things.
