"A 2 by 3 m room, initials written on the walls, bolts and locks that rattle day and night, and communication with slips. But, still, I am much freer than those who brought me here". These are Erion Veliaj's 24 hours in the cell where he has been since February 10, recounted in an interview for ' Frontline ' on Report TV.

"I'm freer than Nesti Angoni... Freer than Ols Dado who, because he has 5, 7 apartments from my permits, has prison in his head and will never be satisfied," Veliaj says to journalist Marsela Karapanxhi.
Mayor Veliaj not only describes the arrest as personal revenge by prosecutor Ols Dado, but also as a clear electoral blow by SPAK against his party, which on May 11 is asking citizens for a fourth governing mandate.
"I suspect that SPAK suffers from a complex of making a fool of itself, where every party is hit, and no one wins a clear majority. This is a futile effort. With or without me in Tirana, the Socialist Party and Edi Rama will convincingly win the mandate for Albania in the European Union. It would be in SPAK's honor not to enter politics, or like Di Pietro in Italy to become a political party and run," says Veliaj.
However, the public attack on SPAK and the harsh rhetoric against the new judiciary only after he was arrested, suggests that he does not unite him at all with his political opponents, Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta, in prison for corruption.
"I am as far from Saliu and Meta as incense from the devil. I did not have the blocks to kill 4 people with bullets in the flesh on January 21, nor did I have a boy to roast 26 people alive in Gërdec. Now we have to see how lawyers with 5-A degrees, with a notary license from their father, and appointed as prosecutors by their friend, penetrated the top of the judiciary. This is an abuse of the trust that the Socialist Party gave to the system," Veliaj continues.
With Prime Minister Rama, who has described his arrest as unnecessary and without trial, he says that there has been no communication during these 25 days in prison, convinced that he is the only one who can ensure not only strong justice, but also fair justice.
"Edi Rama is my Prime Minister, my party chairman, and a rare friend and valued mentor for 20 years. I don't need to deliver ballots, because friends of the ideal don't need to coordinate on the values they believe in."
"I believe in Edi as the best Prime Minister of all time, as the only one who can raise the flag of Albania in the European Union, and as the only one who can ensure that the new and independent justice system has not only a sword, but also scales," Veliaj emphasizes.
He says that prosecutor Dado has banned meetings and communications, except with his wife, while he says that he has not yet found the courage to see his son.
"No, I haven't met the boy. I can't explain to him without tears in my eyes and sobs that this country still curses those who work, tears down those who build, hinders those who try, fights those who help anyone in need! I can't hold back my tears when you remind me of the boy, but that's it.
"Ajola has been allowed twice. The others, none! Not religious leaders, not colleagues, not friends! I hope Olsi feels like a big and brave man with these banal isolations," the Mayor said.
On March 11, Erion Veliaj will seek his freedom at the Special Court of Appeal, after appealing the prison sentence signed by Judge Erion Bani. He says he has already provided evidence that he is not evading justice and is not choosing the path of escape, with his return from Germany and the US in December.
