The most voted, outside the Parliament, Alimehmeti: The fact that the US

Even though he received 17,500 votes on the Democratic Party's open list for the Tirana district, he still remained outside of parliament.

In an interview with "Ora News", the doctor and democratic candidate in the May 11 elections, Ilir Alimehmeti, blamed the majority for this "failure".

"The mandate is personal, the vision is global, for everyone. We need to understand something: our Albania is disappearing. We can deal with these small things, but we need to understand the big thing."

Our youth has disappeared, our birth rate has decreased, and our old age has increased. This shows that we are fading away and are unable to renew ourselves. Why is this happening? Because of the policies we have adopted or not adopted.

Because we do that we do these kinds of elections, and I am very sorry that in 2025 we continue to have elections that the OSCE/ODIHR says are unfair elections and where they speak very clearly about the use of the administration, the use of money and criminal groups, because of fines before the elections and so on, and we have witnessed them.

These are high-level diplomats and when they use the word, they use it very precisely, and this time they clearly say no longer "they were reported," but "we have witnessed." And what does this mean?

Either they were present, or they have strong evidence. And if we complement this with the fact that we have a delay in a congratulatory message from the US State Department to Albania, which is usually a routine congratulatory message to a partner country, there is a delay here. I'm not saying that this message will not come, but the fact is that it has been delayed.

And the delay itself speaks, it's a message in itself. So it's a deafening message in this kind of moment.

Why? Because if we don't have free and fair elections, it's no longer a question of whether or not I will get the mandate, but rather whether we will take this country to the next level or not?! This is the reality. We have an Albania that is always on the run and the fact is that fewer and fewer people are participating in our elections.

And in fact, we even have the Prime Minister himself calling for people not to go out and vote. And we've seen this for 50 years: no matter where you go and vote, no one else would force you to.

"So, if you don't have a mechanism for free and fair elections, you have no other way, then people couldn't flee, because the border was guarded with barbed wire, and this is the reason for what is happening," said Ilir Alimehmeti, among other things.
