Former Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji has declared from Fier that political rotation in Albania can only come through free voting and a strong opposition, emphasizing that Edi Rama cannot be overthrown through illusions, but only at the ballot box.
Salianji criticized DP leaders for a lack of accountability and rejection of internal competition, describing this as a lack of political integrity and historical responsibility towards the Democrats who, according to him, have endured 13 years in opposition.
"The illusions of some DP leaders to not allow internal competition, in addition to a lack of political integrity, express a profound lack of historical responsibility for the sacrifices of the Democrats in 13 years of opposition. Imaginary exclusions, absurd labels, imaginary friends and enemies should no longer be added to our divisions. Enough has been saved by the DP over the years," the MP stressed.
Salianji underlined that change cannot be sought in Albania without first changing the Democratic Party itself.
"We cannot talk about change in Albania by rejecting change in the DP. We cannot ask for votes without seeing the faults and defects we ourselves have. In this way, Edi Rama cannot be defeated," he said.
Salianji: Edi Rama is still in government, unfortunately, with more mandates and more votes. Many say that his end has come and that his end is coming. The end of this government is also coming with the help of justice, which is dismantling it day by day, with the help of international partners, but the final calculations are made at the ballot boxes, because rotation is a political process.
We do not choose the opponent, he is Edi Rama and he must be overthrown at the ballot box, inspiring many people, going and protesting in every corner of Albania. Because all the rest are dreams in drawers that we have seen for 13 years now.
We are in Fier, as in any other city, to open a state of hope for Albanians, a new chapter for the DP. I know how to wait, the Democrats know how to wait, they know how to be patient, but they have endured enough for 13 years in opposition and 13 years of repeating the same false tale of the likely overthrow of the government.
I want to say clearly that some of the leadership have not done their calculations well with us. Because we, and I personally, did not come into politics to remain unjustly silent, but to speak out in front of the citizens, in front of the leadership, just as I have spoken out in front of the government, about the truths that concern Albanian democrats and citizens.

The DP is not anyone's property, neither mine, nor yours, nor the chairman's, nor the secretary's, but of all the Democrats who shoulder the heavy burden of oppositionism.
The DP is the property of the democrats and the hope of hundreds of Albanians who have been waiting for the rotation to happen in Albania for years. The DP can never be strong without competition, without responsibility. Any attempt to avoid these weakens it and distances it from the citizens.
We cannot talk about change in Albania while rejecting change in the DP. We cannot ask for votes without seeing the faults and defects we ourselves have. In this way, Edi Rama cannot be defeated.
