Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Enea Karakaçi has confirmed that the only company in the competition for the construction of the Port of Porto Romano has withdrawn. According to him, this is with economic justification due to the increase in costs. Just a short time ago, within the framework of an in-depth investigation by SPAK, BKH, seized all the tender documentation with a competitor, while the American Trade Federation asked the Albanian government to cancel the tender.
At the end of the government meeting, when asked by journalists, Karakaçi stated that another scenario will be built in cooperation with the government so that, as he put it, "no other factor or actor will be able to stop this project."
"We have a withdrawal of the bidder, with an economic reason, given that due to the increase in costs and the effects of the crisis there is an increase in the total construction costs in general and the bidder has made a withdrawal, with economic justifications. The commission will continue with the procedure. I would like to recall the fact that Rama expressed himself about this project, that there are actors of different types who are trying to stop and sabotage this project for different purposes. We will build another scenario in cooperation with the government that any other factor or actor will not be able to stop this project, because it is an important project for the economic development of the country", declared the minister.
Asked about Russian influences, the minister stated that this is an allusion, while emphasizing the fact that the project has been consulted with the world's largest company on port issues.
When asked about the concern of the American Chamber of Commerce, which has also requested the cancellation of this project, Karakaçi did not comment at length, but expressed himself as follows: "The project has been conceived for two years and has had its procedural phases. The fact is that this project is of international standards and consulted by the largest port company in the world."
Were you aware that the only company in the competition had Russian influence?
Karakaçi: This is an allusion, throughout the procurement process of this competition, the Durrës Port Authority had a special contract with the largest company in the world in terms of port issues, Royal Haskoning of the Netherlands, and the legal documents were part of their evaluation. I think the consultant would have seen if there had been these connections.
