Rama: We are facing forces that threaten our foundations, the EU taught us that even enemies can come together

Prime Minister Edi Rama delivered an introductory speech at the first plenary session of the Community of European Leaders taking place today in Tirana.

" The dream of permanent peace has been replaced by the nightmare of war. We face forces that threaten the very foundations of Europe. I believe there is no better moment than to remind us, while we have been thinking about the Europe of resistance, that we must not forget the other Europe for a peace not only among ourselves, but also with our enemies."

This Europe gave life to the most unique project in human history, the EU taught us that even former enemies could become friends. Rivers of blood turned into paths of peace. It was Europe that taught us that in the midst of the most terrible conflicts we must have faith in humanity. Here in the Balkans we have survived war, destruction and ruin, it has happened during our lifetime, we have learned that peace has no competitors. We have survived economic collapse and we have learned that cooperation has no losers, " said Rama.
