Diaspora vote/ Laws Committee approves SP package for Electoral Code, Socialists against proposal for voting with foreign ID, but leave an option open

The package of amendments to the Electoral Code proposed by the Socialist Party that facilitates the diaspora vote has been approved by the Parliamentary Laws Committee. The initiative foresees bringing forward the deadlines for the registration of parties, electoral coalitions and the submission of lists of candidates for deputies to the CEC, covering all postal expenses for the diaspora vote, as well as the counting of the diaspora vote by the CEC and party representatives.
Meanwhile, the majority refused to vote on the Democrats' initiative, according to which Albanians in the diaspora would also have the right to register on the CEC Platform, using an identification tool from another country.
However, socialist Damian Gjiknuri left open the possibility of realizing the opposition's request.
The Laws Committee meeting preceded discussions and voting in Thursday's plenary session, where it will be clarified whether the changes to the Code will be voted on or not, considering that at least 84 votes of deputies are needed to revise the electoral law.
