Real Madrid record for goals disallowed by VAR, double that of Barcelona

Real Madrid is the team with the most goals disallowed by the VAR system in La Liga since the 2018-2019 season. According to statistics published by the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", the Madrid team has had 42 goals disallowed, a full 23 more than their eternal rivals, Barcelona.

VAR technology continues to be at the center of discussions in Spanish football, while statistics published by "Mundo Deportivo" highlight an interesting fact: Real Madrid leads the list of teams with the most goals disallowed after the intervention of the video replay system.

Since the introduction of VAR in La Liga in the 2018-2019 season, the Madrid team has had 42 goals disallowed. In second place are Atlético Madrid and Villarreal, with 22 goals disallowed each.

They are followed by Celta Vigo, Real Sociedad and Sevilla, with 20 goals each, while Barcelona has recorded 19 goals disallowed. The difference between the two giants of Spanish football is 23 goals.

The most recent example of VAR intervention to the detriment of Real Madrid was the case of Vinicius Junior in the match against Villarreal, which ended with a 1-0 victory for the Madrid team.

The Brazilian's goal, which would have given Real a two-goal lead, was disallowed after video footage showed the striker had pulled an opposing player's hair during the action.

Referee Isidro Díaz de Mera initially did not penalize the incident, but was called in by VAR to review the footage. After verification, he decided to disallow the goal.

According to the same source, the technology has corrected 42 initial decisions in which Real Madrid goals were considered valid. This translates to around five goals disallowed per season that would have been allowed if VAR had not been in use.
