Violence against journalists during the protest, Albanian Media Council: Press freedom in danger

The Albanian Media Council has condemned the violence inflicted on journalists while covering yesterday's protest.
According to the KSHM, these acts are contrary to European standards for press freedom and the protection of journalists.
The Council raises concern that violence against journalists calls into question the commitment to guaranteeing media freedom and emphasizes that standards for the protection of journalists must be implemented in practice and not remain on paper only.
Reaction :
KSHM strongly denounces the violence exerted against journalists while covering the protests of October 13.
The violence reported by AGSH against journalists Izmir Akulli (Dosja.al), Anesti Bajramemaj and Heri Simota (A2 CNN), Vjolanda Peca (Citizens.al), and Fatime Halmusaj; as well as the threats against journalist Xhoi Malësia (Top News) is unacceptable, condemnable, and against every European standard of press freedom and protection of journalists.
This violence, de facto, goes against the entire process of establishing standards for the protection of journalists and media freedom, a process in which the Albanian Government is involved. The careless and indiscriminate exercise of this violence against journalists raises doubts that the Albanian Government's commitment to media standards and freedom remains only on paper and on the table, but is not reflected in the system and structure.
The Kosovo Human Rights Council calls on the relevant bodies to take the journalists' complaints seriously and to react with actions, without any equivocation, to this violence.
