Will Tom Cruise, Scarlett Johansson or Spike Lee be in Cannes?

Tom Cruise for the latest "Mission: Impossible" movie, Scarlett Johansson behind the camera or Denzel Washington in a Spike Lee film?
Betting has begun in the world of cinema ahead of Thursday's presentation of the official selection of the 78th Cannes Film Festival.
A month before the opening of the seventh major world art meeting, its president Iris Knobloch and its Delegate General Thierry Frémaux are to reveal the list of selected films on Thursday at 11:00, at a press conference.
Among the expected stars, the stainless 62-year-old Tom Cruise, who arrived three years ago by helicopter on the red carpet of "Top Gun: Maverick," could do it again with the latest installment of "Mission: Impossible."
The film, presented as the final opus of the saga, is released in French cinemas on May 21, an ideal date for a presentation at Cannes, out of competition.
On the author's side, 14 years after "The Tree of Life", which won the Palme d'Or, director Terrence Malick, 81 years old, more mystical than ever, can claim a new trophy with a story in preparation for years, inspired by biblical stories.
Other Festival veterans, Jim Jarmusch (“Broken Flowers,” “Dead Man,” “Only Lovers Left Alive”) could return at 72, with a film that reunites Cate Blanchett and Adam Driver, or Wes Anderson, 55, who brought together in his latest film, once again, an incomparable star cast, Torocaro S. Johansson.
The latter could bring a breath of fresh air by presenting her first directorial film, “Eleanor The Great,” at the age of 40. She’s not the only actress attempting the transition to directing: Kristen Stewart, 34, has just shot her first feature film.
The new master of American horror, Ari Aster, 38, author of the chilling films "Heredity" and "Midsommar," could also bring new blood to Cannes, where he has never been selected before, with a film that reunites Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone.
Three French directors filmed with a golden cast: Julia Ducournau (Palme d'Or with the very scary "Titans") for a new film with Golshifteh Farahani and Tahar Rahim, Rebecca Zlotowski ("Children of Others", "A Light Girl") for a drama with Jodie Foster for a film with Angelina Winoc.
The festival may not be able to resist choosing the comedy "Nouvelle Vague", presented as a creation of the classic "A bout de souffle", "in the style and spirit of Godard" and signed by Richard Linklater.
Like every year, around 20 films will be in official competition, vying to succeed "Anora", the 2024 Palme d'Or.
The presidency of the jury has been entrusted to Juliette Binoche, one of the most internationally recognized French stars and a dedicated personality, for an edition that will take place from May 13 to 24, in a tense context, amid artists' concerns about the Trump presidency and the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
On screen, Kirill Serebrennikov, Andrey Zvyagintsev or the young Kantemir Balagov could embody the voice of Russian cinema forced into exile.
The festival has not yet announced its opening film or the rest of the jury.
