Witness: Usher was present when Diddy attacked Cassie

Singer and songwriter Dawn Richard appeared at the defendants' trial in Manhattan federal court offering dramatic testimony about Usher when describing the relationship between Sean 'Diddy' Combs and his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.

Richard, who rose to fame as part of Danity Kane and later performed in the Diddy-Dirty Money trio, told the jury that she witnessed Diddy violently attacking Ventura.

Richard began by describing a 2010 dinner at a trendy West Hollywood venue. A quiet argument between Combs and Ventura suddenly escalated into physical violence, she said, when Combs “punched her in the stomach.”

According to Richard, at the table were: Usher, Ne-Yo and industry titan Jimmy Iovine.

After the group left the restaurant, Richard got into a car with Combs and Ventura. She recalled Combs grabbing Ventura by the neck, then shooting her in the face while scolding her.

" He told her she had to listen to him, " Richard said, adding that Ventura remained silent and visibly shocked.

Richard also recounted a separate encounter in 2009, one she called “much worse.” In that case, Combs allegedly hit Ventura with a frying pan. Richard testified that when she and another witness reacted with horror, Combs warned them that “we could disappear” if they ever spoke about what they had seen.

Asked by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitzi Steiner what she thought those words meant, Richard replied without hesitation: “ That he would kill us .”
