New Albania: With a new mindset and in the EU

Political leaders of the redemptive stamp, not only in Albania, have the habit of launching missionary slogans such as "for a new world", "for a new beginning", "for a Renaissance", etc. When they come to power, they are seized by the year zero syndrome, as if time, the mission, history begins with them. Faced with failure and the impossibility of doing what they have fantasized, they end up in tyranny when they rule in closed one-party regimes. In corrupt autocrats in supposedly democratic regimes. Not only in the sense of abusive enrichment in violation of laws, but also of trampling on principles and values, which is the highest form of moral corruption.
The trajectory of this process requires many pages to explain. In the space of an article like this, one can only say this: The evil has been warned by the mindset of such leaders before they came to power. The word is twisted, disguised. The mindset is not. The mindset as a set of tools and forms of communication is announced in all sorts of details. Only those who are blinded by the mind do not notice it.
New Albania, the beautiful motto of the epic protest on the "Martyrs of the Nation" boulevard, has the distinction that, similar to the slogan "We love Albania like all of Europe" of the Sudeten Movement of December 1990, it was born as a spiritual and genuine baptism of a very large mass of people.
As such, it has the chance to avoid reminiscences with the bad habits of irrational, prosecutorial, stereotyped oppositionism, poor in vocabulary, empty in ideas, burdened with grimaces, ugliness itself.
In fact, just as communism can be defeated with a higher thought and not with declarative anti-communism, as Abaz Jermeni said after the failure he experienced when he saw the election results of May 26, 1996, the fight against the Berisha-Rama establishment is also efficient, proving superiority in every aspect over it. We have seen it in fact in many speeches of young people, but also of older people in the epic protest on the boulevard - well-educated, free, strong, ethical, argumentative people, who contrast with the old-fashioned rallies.
Their spontaneous speeches show that the new Albania is above all that of a new, national, European and democratic mindset, where young people seek to take responsibility as protagonists of change.
By despising the practices of membership and "promotion" in establishment parties for facade or for political transplant of eternal leaders.
By differentiating ourselves from the ridiculous "model" of the young man who enters politics with a new lady by his side and an old idea in his head.
Wanting and aiming to make a political career not by applying, as if it were a job advertised, but through passionate commitment where a sustainable, well-deserved, effective political career is built step by step.
“For the young the future is great, the past is small,” said Aristotle. “Their actions are dictated not so much by calculation as by the heart.” This has not changed for millennia.
The “new Albania” is already Albania in the EU. At first glance, it would seem paradoxical that the protest against the government and the prime minister would have as its compass something that Rama made his battle horse in the 2025 elections and continues to have as the main topic of his speech all day long. But that is not the case.
First, to start with the simplest, there are about eighty-eight percent of Albanian citizens who support Albania's membership in the EU, a record figure that continues to amaze in Brussels and every European capital. Everyone does it for themselves, for their family, for the country, and not because the prime minister says so.
Secondly, Albania in the EU is the most sustainable solution for the demands-aspirations of the protest today and of free citizens in the future. From those for environmental protection and the fight against impunity in high spheres to those related to the reform of the political system in the function of free elections, where the people have the opportunity to choose their own deputies. But be careful! The solutions we are talking about and others equally important are not promises to be kept when we are inside the European home. They are conditions to be accepted.
Thirdly, despite the fact that our “ship” continues its journey towards the port of integration and other chapters will be closed in succession, the “state exams”, or the gates of Hercules, are at the end. They are the implementation of laws and standards. No matter how much the geopolitical factor frees up its hand, Albania cannot wait for the end with the low electoral standards it has, with the strong influence of dirty money from drug trafficking, crime and corruption in the construction sector and beyond, with the underground but legible obstacles that SPAK and GHKKO’s fight against corruption in high government spheres faces, with other shortcomings in the field of food safety and environmental protection. Add to this regrets and ambiguities in the high spheres of politics and oligarchs in Tirana (under the monitor of Brussels, Berlin and others), where, unable to stop the EU enlargement with Albania, they would prefer a half-hearted acceptance, "buono per Albania" that allows them to maintain their privileges and status. It is unlikely to happen. But they could even delay our integration
Under these conditions, the protest, as an irreplaceable institution of democracy, has the mission and burden to be vigilant, on guard and in the vanguard of the dream of integration. /Mapo
