Scandal in Turkish football/ President of the Central Board of Referees banned, suspected of interfering with referees

Another scandal erupts in Turkish football. Police detain the president of the Central Referees Board (MHK), Ferhat Gundogdu, and 6 other people for pressuring referees and forging official documents.

According to Turkish media, citing judicial sources, the investigation being conducted by the Istanbul General Prosecutor's Office, transferred from Antalya due to lack of jurisdiction, began after reviewing statements from whistleblowers and witnesses, expert reports, HTS databases and the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) records.

And at this point, checks were carried out precisely on the president of the MHK, Ferhat Gundogdu, the president of the Istanbul Branch of the Association of Active Football Referees and Observers of Turkey, Ferdi Karadoruk, the former vice president of the MHK, Ahmet Sahin, MH member, Sebahattin Sahin, and former MHK member, Yunus Yildirim.

The investigation file alleges that some referees were excluded from the classification without an objective and reasoned decision, some were not assigned to matches or had their duties systematically reduced, while some other referees were treated in a privileged manner. The investigation file also includes allegations of interference in the scoring and appointment processes, as well as that irregular changes were made to the lists of referees and observers for the years 2022 and 2024.

The Turkish Minister of Justice, Akin Gurlek, has also reacted to this event, making a statement regarding this scandal, which, among other things, stated that in addition to the arrests, searches were also carried out at the homes, workplaces and offices of the suspects by order of the judicial authorities.
