One of the injured in serious condition/ Fuel explosion in Saranda, first suspicions revealed

One of the two people injured in the explosion at a gas station in Saranda is in very serious condition and is expected to be transported by helicopter to Tirana. He is 39-year-old Fatmir Pema, who suffered burns to his body, while the other injured person is 27-year-old Florian Bica.

The incident occurred at noon today at a gas station on Skënderbeu Street in Saranda. According to preliminary information, the gas station had been closed for about three months and the two employees were there to perform maintenance work and prepare the environment for its return to operation.

At the time of the explosion, the workers were using a cutting tool, known as a “troko”. Preliminary suspicions are that sparks generated by working with this equipment may have ignited volatile materials remaining in the environment and subsequently caused the explosion. The exact cause, however, remains under investigation by authorities.

According to the white shirts, Fatmir Pema has suffered burns to his body and his condition is very serious, so it has been decided to transport him to Tirana for more specialized treatment. Numerous police and fire brigade forces have gone to the scene, while verification is ongoing.
