Szczesny after 'El Clasico': Wonderful moment. Renewal? The wife decides!
Wojciech Szczesny could not hold back his tears after the El Clasico victory against Real Madrid, a success that allows Barcelona to win La Liga with a seven-point advantage over their rivals, three rounds before the end of the season.
"I always try to control my emotions and not show them, whether they are positive or negative. But after the final whistle, it was very difficult for me."
"My eyes filled with tears. It was a wonderful moment," the Polish goalkeeper explained to Canal +.
"I was retired and I find myself in this situation. It may seem strange because Inter eliminated us, but this Barcelona is the best team in the world at the moment.
What these young players are doing is impressive and they should be rewarded.
It's a shame we couldn't win everything, but we came close and built something very important for the future."
Szczesny has revealed that Barca have offered him a contract extension, despite Marc Ter Stegen's return to the pitch.
"I don't deny that I was offered a two-year extension, but I have to decide with my family what is best for us.
"I think I owe it to my family, my wife, we'll make these decisions together, so I haven't made any yet," he said.
"Most of the decisions at home are made by my wife and I'm not ashamed of that at all.
"Usually I make the decisions about football, but it's a very unusual situation, considering we were determined to come here for a year to achieve our dreams and then come back to play golf. I'll decide in the coming weeks."
