Zhegrova out for three months, Lille coach worried: Recovery is taking too long

Edon Zhegrova continues to be a major concern for French team Lille. The Kosovar striker shone in the fall, but has been absent since December 14.

What was believed to be a minor injury has left the 25-year-old out of action for more than three and a half months.

It is an injury to the lower abdomen, while the wait for Zhegrova's return continues.

It is expected that Zhegrova will return to the pitch after the national team matches.

The national team matches concluded on Tuesday, while Lille plays the northern derby against Lens on Sunday.

The match takes place at 20:45 and belongs to the 27th round of the French championship.

Lille is sixth with 44 points, while Lens is eighth with 39 points.

Lille announced on Friday the absence of Zhegrova and Ethan Mbappe.

Lille coach Bruno Genesio spoke about the Kosovar star at the press conference.

"We had hoped to have Zhegrova in the squad for Sunday. Obviously we didn't expect him to be ready to play from the start as Edon has been out for more than three months. But in the end his condition was not satisfactory enough to include him in the squad," said Genesio.

"Zhegrova is continuing his rehabilitation and gradual reintegration into the team. He has undergone an intervention, but the recovery phase is taking longer than expected," added the Lille coach.

On April 5, Lille plays away against Lyon, as part of the 28th round. In that match, Zhegrova could be included in the squad.

"I hope that for the match against Lyon we can consider having him in the squad. But we have to examine the situation day by day, because sometimes he feels much better and then the next day he feels a little uncomfortable again. It's also about listening to his feelings, his body, day by day," added Genesio, who was not very calm during the presentation to journalists.
