ChatGPT is harming Albanian students' ability to think and analyze

The use of ChatGPT has begun to be increasingly noticed by teachers, who see a great similarity between students' essays.

In schools today, students no longer ask their deskmate or teacher about their assignments, but ask Chatgpt, their new virtual friend, who is ready to do any essay, assignment, or project that is requested. It is a simple, quick, and time-saving process, just copy-paste and the assignments are ready.

"Teachers have noticed that the essays are the same. This is precisely the problem, there is no longer any differentiation between students. Until now, we have worked hard to encourage critical thinking, creativity, the ability to solve problems. But now, when they are asked to write an essay, they no longer strain their brains. They ask ChatGPT to do it for them ," says education expert Irida Sina.

Sina says this behavior is damaging students' ability to think, analyze, and be critical. This in turn results in students with a poor vocabulary.

"I am very skeptical about enriching their vocabulary. There are two reasons: first, they ask ChatGPT for the essay; second, they copy it without reading it at all. They don't bother to understand what the program has written. This is where the real problem begins ," says the expert.

If ChatGPT is used without criteria, without analysis, and without clear instructions, there is a risk that children will lose the ability to think for themselves, becoming dependent on technology.

Technology, undoubtedly, has its benefits, but only if used carefully. What is advised is that students learn to benefit from technological tools without replacing the process of personal thinking and creation. /Euronews Albania
