Eraldo Fizi, the ex-husband of Xhuana Nikolli, who ended her life after being assaulted by a young man, appeared before the Tirana Court, where he was sentenced to prison. The prosecution has filed charges of inciting suicide and domestic violence against Fizi. He surrendered to the Lezha Police after more than a year and a half on the run.
During the hearing, Fizi stated that his psychological condition is serious and that he will face the consequences of what he has caused. He admitted that he raped Xhuana the day before she took her own life, but denied the allegations that the violence was continuous. Regarding the circumstances of the incident, Eraldo Fizi stated that he will provide explanations at a later date. Meanwhile, the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Tirana decided to leave in force the personal security measure "Arrest in prison" for Fizi, suspected of the criminal offense of "Causing suicide".
Xhuana Nikolli passed away in the emergency room of the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center, where she presented herself for help after consuming fostoxin. After the divorce, she had left Lezha and was living with her friends in a rented house in Tirana.
The investigation revealed that, before she took her own life, Xhuana had been raped and the suspect was Eraldo Fizi, her ex-husband. Regarding this incident, the Police Supervision Agency is conducting an investigation into police officers to assess whether they took all necessary measures to investigate the case.

Due to the public interest shown, we officially communicate the following information: The Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Tirana, today, on 02.10.2026, considered the request submitted by the Prosecutor's Office to the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Tirana, against the person under investigation EF, with the object: "Interrogation of the arrested person", provided for by article 248 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, suspected of committing the criminal offense "Causing suicide", provided for by article 99 of the Criminal Code.
The court, at the conclusion of the trial of the case, after reviewing the evidence presented, in accordance with Articles 228, 229, 238 and 248 of the Code of Criminal Procedure,
DECIDED:
1. Acceptance of the request.
2. The continuation of the implementation of the personal security measure "Arrest in prison", provided for by article 238 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, assigned to the person under investigation EF by decision no. 643 Regj. Them., dated 16.03.2026, of the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Tirana, ordering his detention in a detention facility.
3. The Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Tirana is ordered to execute this decision.
4. An appeal against this decision is allowed to the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction within 5 days, starting from the day after the notification of this decision.
