Gentian Bejtja's Murder, Court of Appeal Reduces Sentence for Ilir Beqaraj

The Court of Appeal has changed the verdict for Ilir Beqaraj, accused of the murder of Gentian Bejtja.

The trial panel sentenced him to 20 years in prison, taking advantage of the shortened trial and in total he will serve 12 years and 8 months in prison.

Bejtja, a former prison policeman, was killed in the yard of his apartment in the village of Larush. In the first instance, Beqaraj was sentenced to 24 years in prison. With the new decision, the Appeal has halved the sentence given earlier. We recall that the prosecution requested 23 years in prison for Ilir Beqarjan. Earlier, in an assassination attempt, his brother-in-law was killed and his minor son was injured.

Beqaj was known as a friend of Enver Stafuka, and was the last person he met before his disappearance.
