The use of counterfeit money at a gas station in Durrës has cost the freedom of a 24-year-old from Tirana, who was detained after it turned out that he was also wanted by the Vlora police for other similar cases.
The incident occurred on January 24, 2026, at a gas station on Egnatia Road, where the young man allegedly paid with two $100 bills, which later turned out to be counterfeit.
After being notified, the police intervened and seized the banknotes as material evidence and a few days later, arrested the perpetrator.
"The Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Specialists detained the wanted citizen, EK, 24 years old, resident of Tirana. This citizen is suspected of having purchased fuel on 24.01.2026, at a location on "Egnatia" Street, with 2 banknotes (in the denomination of 100 dollars), suspected to be counterfeit. The banknotes were seized as material evidence.
From the verifications, the 24-year-old resulted in being wanted by the Vlora Police for 2 other cases of the same criminal activity, committed during January 2026. The investigation continues to uncover other cases in this field, in which citizen E. K. may have been involved.
