Machete attack at New York train station, attacker killed
At least three people, two men and a woman, were injured in a machete attack at New York City's Grand Central Station, the New York Post reports. The attacker is suspected of stabbing the victims with a machete.
The attack began shortly after 9:30 a.m. local time on the northbound subway platform of lines 4, 5 and 6. Police responded to an emergency call and immediately opened fire on the attacker, who, according to media reports, citing police sources, died.
The three injured are all in stable condition in hospital. Two officers were also admitted for medical check-ups.
The police department, through an alert on X, urged travelers to avoid Grand Central Station due to an ongoing investigation.
Trains in both directions were diverted from Grand Central-42nd Street station. Governor Kathy Hochul called it a "senseless act of violence."
