Two billion € investment for air defense, Poland signs agreement with the

Poland and the United States signed a contract worth almost two billion euros to provide logistical support for the Patriot air defense system, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz announced today.

"The security of Polish skies is invaluable ," Kosiniak-Kamysz told reporters.

According to Reuters, the agreement includes technical support and training and concerns logistical support for the Patriot system within the Polish armed forces.

The Polish Ministry of Defense announced that the implementation of this agreement will enable the operational readiness of Patriots, which form the basis of the so-called Wisla program.

The goal of this program is to defend against short-range ballistic missiles, including missiles that can change the direction of flight.

Poland reportedly purchased the first two Patriot batteries from the US in 2018 as part of the same program.

Spurred by Russian aggression in Ukraine three years ago, Poland became a NATO member with the majority of its national GDP allocated to defense.

Warsaw plans to invest 4.1% of GDP in defense this year, and for 2025, it announces an increase in that amount to 4.7%.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk recently announced that all adult males in the country will undergo military training, and he also supported Poland's withdrawal from international conventions banning the use of anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions.

The Patriot air defense system is an American missile system designed to intercept ballistic and cruise missiles and enemy aircraft. It uses radar technology to detect targets and launches high-precision anti-aircraft missiles. /Reuters
