Prime Minister Starmer sacks Health Minister after WhatsApp comments

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer today dismissed Health Minister and Labour Party member Andrew Gwynne from his post after comments made in a WhatsApp group.
Andrew Gwynne, MP for Gorton & Denton – has been sacked as Health Minister and suspended from the Labour Party.
He posted sexist comments about Angela Rayner, racist comments about Labour MP Diane Abbott and joked about an elderly woman dying - during a WhatsApp group chat - with figures from Manchester-based Labour, according to a report by the Mail.
"I am deeply sorry for my ill-judged comments and apologise for any offence I may have caused. I have served the Labour Party all my life and it was a great honour to be appointed as a minister by Keir Starmer," Gwynne posted on X.
"I fully understand the decisions that the prime minister and the party have made and, although I am very sad – I will support them in any way I can," he added.
"Gwynne posted messages to a WhatsApp group called 'Trigger Me Timbers', which she shared with more than a dozen Labour councillors, party officials and at least one other MP," the Mail reported.
"The Prime Minister is committed to maintaining high standards of conduct in public office and leading a government that serves working people," a British government spokesman said.
"He will not hesitate to take action against any ministry that fails to meet these standards," the spokesman added.
