War in Iran/ Pope Leo XIV asks God to help leaders abandon conflict

Pope Leo released a video on Thursday praying that God would help world leaders renounce war as a means of resolving conflicts, in an unusual appeal as the US-Israeli bombing campaign against Iran continued for a sixth day.
"Lord, enlighten the leaders of nations, so that they may have the courage to abandon the projects of death," the Pope said in the video message.
"Today we raise our prayer for peace in the world, asking nations to lay down their weapons and choose the path of dialogue and diplomacy," he said.
Leo releases a video message each month to announce his prayer intentions for that month. The Pope's intention for March is "for disarmament and peace."
It was not clear whether Thursday's video was specifically created to respond to the US-Israeli military campaign, which has sparked a regional war with Iranian attacks on Israel, the Gulf and Iraq, as well as Israeli strikes on Lebanon.
The Vatican did not immediately respond to a question about when the video was recorded.
The Vatican's top diplomat warned Wednesday that the US-Israeli attacks undermined international law and said nations had no right to launch "preventive wars," an unusually direct criticism of the military campaign.
“If states were to be granted the right to 'preventive war'… the whole world could risk burning,” said Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican's secretary of state, in an interview with Vatican News.
In his video, the Pope asked God to help the world understand "that true security does not come from control driven by fear, but from faith, justice and solidarity among peoples."
