Only 66 MPs in the hall, the session to elect the president of Kosovo continues

The Kosovo Assembly has convened in an extraordinary session within the time limits for the election of the President.

"There are 64 MPs present, in this case I invite the MPs who are not present to come to the session. We have sufficient quorum to continue," said the Speaker of the Assembly.

To elect the president, 2/3 of the members of the Assembly of Kosovo are required.

"I have not received any notification as to why the deputies are absent. I ask the deputies of the assembly who are not present to come to the hall," said Haxhiu.

The Speaker is also citing Constitutional Court rulings, which state that MPs should feel obligated to participate in the session.

With only 66 deputies in the hall, the session to elect the president continues.

Glauk Konjufca is formally proposed as a candidate for president, while facing him is Fatmire Kollçaku Mulhaxha.

Due to the lack of conditions, the constitutional amendments requested by Osmani were not voted on in the first session, announcing the holding of the 10:00 PM session, which is still ongoing.

As Top Channel journalist Leonita Bajrami reports, PDK and LDK have come out against Osmani's proposals.

The statements from the extraordinary session are revealed:

Arbërie Nagavci – MP, Vetëvendosje

"A president elected by the citizens must win the vote of the majority of citizens and different groups of society, not just members of parliament, and this can make a figure who can be a unifier for the citizens and the country."

Bedri Hamza – MP, Democratic Party of Kosovo

"We consider that this requires a broader discussion, a broader political consensus, among political entities and everyone else, so that in the future the discussion on amending the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo can start on a regular basis."

In this way, we cannot speak in a meritorious manner tonight. Not tonight, but much earlier I expected Kosovo to have elected a president, or president, and not to come to this situation where in the last hours of the mandate, the deputies of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo are challenged with an extraordinary session, without material, and to talk about amending the Constitution.

"In principle, we are in favor, but this requires treatment in accordance with the laws, regulations and Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo."

Lumir Abdixhiku – MP, Democratic League of Kosovo

"The lack of double will, in addition to needing two-thirds of Albanians, two-thirds of non-Albanians are also needed, and the second issue that you need to understand, in those amendments it clearly states that these amendments enter into force six months after they are voted on in the Kosovo Assembly, and we are two to three hours away from the parliamentary deadline."

Even if we pass them, it seems that we don't have the minorities here because we haven't had them for 14 years, because don't forget that their demands were much deeper, they were for a Serbian vice president, which is why we have never managed to compromise, but even if such a thing were to pass, these amendments would come into force six months from today, and we are two to three hours away from the potential decree for new elections.

"It would have been good if we had used this time more wisely, but these are political maneuvers, nighttime, night has no blessings, that's why the LDK supports and votes for them."
