Greece is "paralyzed"! National strike of tourism workers

A nationwide strike of tourism and restaurant workers has been called today by the Panhellenic Federation of Restaurant and Tourism Workers (POEET).
The union demands, among other collective agreements, the strengthening of supervisory mechanisms to ensure safety measures in all locations, wage increases and an extension of unemployment benefits for seasonal workers, covering 80% of their salary.
"The government is leaving us without income during the winter, as thousands of seasonal workers have not yet received unemployment benefits, despite having applied between the end of October and the beginning of November," the Federation said in a statement.
"This is resulting in experienced workers leaving the sector and being replaced by our fellow citizens with insecure contracts without rights, who often fall victim to abuse by their employers," the statement denounces.
POEET has called a large protest rally for this morning in Athens, in front of the Ministry of Labor, under the slogan "We will not work without rights."
