While investigating the attack on television, the mafia kills the prosecutor in Ecuador

Prosecutor César Suarez, who was investigating the criminal act recorded against a television station, was executed in a mafia assassination a short time ago in Ecuador.
The event took place on Wednesday afternoon in the city of Guayaquil, while it is still not clear if the murder of Suarez is related to the investigations he was conducting for the attack on the television station. Local media reports that the prosecutor was shot while walking near his office.
In an interview with the newspaper "El Universo" the day before his death, Suarez said that he had not been given police protection despite having interrogated the 13 people arrested after the attack on the television station.
His killing is the latest in a spate of violent incidents across Ecuador following the escape of two gang bosses from prison, hundreds of prison guards taken hostage and explosions in several cities.
"Criminals, terrorists, will not hinder our commitment to Ecuadorian society. We call on the law enforcement forces to guarantee the safety of those who are performing their duty", said the country's general prosecutor, Diana Salazar, in a video posted on social networks. She announced that she was investigating the murder of prosecutor Suarez, but did not provide other details.
Ecuador has been rocked by major violence in recent days, including the attack on the "TC" television studio in Guayaquil, the hostage-taking of more than 200 prison employees, explosions in several cities and the kidnapping of police officers.
