Protests in Serbia force Vucic to call early elections

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced early parliamentary elections, which will be called before the end of the current parliament's term, while he also warned of early local elections, which will be held in several municipalities in Serbia within five to six months.

"There will be extraordinary parliamentary elections. Before the end of the mandate of the current parliamentary session, we will go to those elections and then people will have the opportunity to evaluate the work of each of us ," Vučić said at the Palace of Serbia, answering a journalist's question.

Vučić stated that in the elections, citizens will decide "whether we want to live in a good and normal Serbia."

"Then people will have the opportunity to evaluate the work of each of us and say whether we want to live in a good Serbia or in their Serbia, whether we want to live in a normal Serbia. So, these things are very important and it seems to me that people ultimately make a decision about this ," Vučić said.

Protests have been ongoing in Serbia since November 2024, after a tent collapsed at the Novi Sad railway station, killing 16 people. Protesters blame the authorities for the tragedy. One of their demands is early parliamentary elections./ Tanjug.
